Sumner is found in western Tallahatchie County, just down Highway 49 from Clarksdale on the way to Greenwood.

I studied the event in school and talked about it when I was teaching, but when you actually are where it took place, it ushers in a new understanding.

Tallahatchie County Court House, Sumner

Tallahatchie is one of those counties in Mississippi that has two court houses and county seats. One is in Sumner and the other is in Charleston. The courthouse in Sumner was built in 1902. It became famous as the court house where the Emmitt Till case took place.
