Day trips have become an important type of vacation for Americans today. I’ve talked about them before. Most of us are too busy to take several days away from work in order to have an extended vacation, but there are so many places to see within just a few hours of where we live that we can still get out and have fun. Museums are abundant around here and a few days ago I found several that I fell in love with. The Arkansas Railroad Museum is located at 1700 Port Road in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
The Arkansas Railroad Museum is operated by the Cotton Belt Rail Historical Society and is located in a building that covers nearly two acres. It is truly a sight to behold when you walk in the front doors.
There are engines and railway cars to explore lining both sides of the massive structure along with interpretive displays and models.
You can even visit an actual sleeping car and passenger car to experience exactly what it was like to ride the rails.
The staff and volunteers who operate the railway museum are extremely nice and willing to explain anything you might have a question about. Kids and Big kids love trains and I recommend everybody stop by this wonderful museum.
Admission is free. The museum is open Monday thru Saturday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Hours do vary sometimes though because of the seasons , so it is wise to check ahead.
