Delta Cultural Center hosted it’s first Delta Day School Event from October 10 to October 12 and it was a fun time for the students and teachers who attended. Over 250 children attended this program which covered early days in our Delta. Special thanks to Barton Elementary, Clarendon Elementary , Marvel Elementary and DeSoto School for joining the presenters and staff of the DCC.
There was an actual keelboat that students could explore and study. Presenters talked about river traffic and were dressed in period costume.
Kids learned about the fur trade in our state from the Arkansas Park Service and the Department of Arkansas Heritage.
The Trail of Tears was discussed and students learned about Native American names and dance.
Native American games were also a big hit with the kids.
The Delta Cultural Center in Helena is constantly hosting activities for all the schools in our area. Teachers are welcome to check out the Delta Cultural Center for upcoming events. They can also contact the Education Department there.
