James Cotton

James Cotton was born July 1, 1935 in Tunica, Mississippi. As a young boy, he was given a harmonica as a Christmas present and soon he had it mastered. Listening to Sonny Boy Williamson broadcasting at King Biscuit Time on the radio, he knew what his future would be. When he was nine, after his parents died, Sonny Boy Williamson took him under his wing. Cotton traveled around Mississippi and Arkansas playing the juke joints. He was too young to go in so he stayed on the front playing his harmonica. Cotton soon moved to Beale Street and Memphis where he started a recording career. James Cotton was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2006 and won ten blues awards. He passed away on July 11, 2017.

Dealing with the Devil lyrics

I used to live with the whiskey

And the good times and the ladies of the night

Then the whiskey took control

Left me waltzing with the witches in my mind
