The Tunica County Court House is found on School Street in Tunica, MS. It is a large three story building. On the bottom floor is found the Chancery and Circuit Clerk offices. The inside is loaded with marble everywhere and is beautiful. To the right and left from the lobby are marble staircases which you use to go to the main court room and offices. There is a third floor, but it is not open. There is a balcony sitting level there for the court room.
Directly behind the courthouse is the old Tunica County Jail. It is no longer used, but ooozes history. It is made of a red brick with gothic features. When I was a child, the school used to take us on tours of the jail.
On the right yard by the court house are benches and older decorations that harken back to a time long gone.
The Tunica county court house is worth a visit and is a nice place to just walk around and look at. There are restrictions on going inside, but security is welcoming and willing to help. Just like most public buildings and court houses, there are times when they are extremely busy and you may not be able to tour it.
