The present Quitman County Court House was built between 1911 and 1912 after the county seat was moved from Belen. The picture below was taken about 1919.
It is a large red brick building made almost like a square. On one side is a monument to military veterans of Quitman County. Next to it is a cannon in honor of Quitman County military veterans.
The main entry is on the north side, but you can also enter on the south side.
Obedience to the law is liberty is quoted above the entry.
On the eastern side is a stairwell leading to the court room. Court houses really represent the heart of a county.
