A great way to start your vacation in the Mississippi Delta if you are coming down from Memphis, Tennessee on Highway 61 is the Tunica Gateway to the Blues Museum. The nice and helpful staff will welcome you and explain all about the museum and it’s exhibits. The gift shop is full of neat things to buy as you start to immerse yourself in the Delta Blues
The museum itself is found in the old depot from Dundee in Southern Tunica County, which was moved north and fixed out in a way that will leave your mouth open in amazement. There are interactive exhibits where different Mississippians explain about the blues and the Delta. As you walk through the museum, you are able to see musical instruments and there are a number of hands on activities. A recording studio also welcomes you in and helps you to record your own blues song. That was the highlight to me and I had to listen to my song over and over again.
Take a trip and learn about the Delta at the Tunica Gateway to the Blues Museum. It is located at 13625 U.S. Highway 61 North in Robinsonville, MS 38664. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for kids under 12. Hours vary according to the seasons so check ahead.
